A prisoner who had escaped from Tafa’igata Prison, identified as Siliva Auali’itia, was found dead on Thursday morning.

The death was confirmed by Assistant Commissioner of Prisons and Correction Services, Ulugia Niuia Aumua.

Before Aualiitia was found dead, the Samoa Observer was told on Thursday that he had been on the run for two days.

“This prisoner is waiting for his surgery,” said Ulugia on Wednesday.

“I cannot reveal his illness but he was missing for two days.

“He has been in prison for nine months now and he is serving two years for theft.”

Yesterday, Ulugia declined to discuss the details of his death.

“All I can say is that it’s true that we found him at the back in the plantation,” Ulugia told the Samoa Observer.
