“AM SAMOA GOVERNMENT HAS FAILED…”

Dear American Samoa Government,

The Government has one job and that job is to do right by its people! However, the American Samoa Government has failed not only myself but my family and its citizens. By making us feel like unimportant irritants and pariahs to society.

We’ve exhausted every measure we can think of to work collaboratively to come up with safe solutions such as providing facts, and data with proof for safe repatriation. Yet, your response is to do nothing and you dare to say you understand where we are coming from and quote the bible?

How much money did you receive from the US to support our island and to prepare? You're a bunch of cowards, hypocrites, and crooks!!! Benefiting from the pandemic while your people are suffering!

What if the tables were turned? Imagine yourself stranded away from your families, homes, jobs, and livelihood, would you fight? Do you not understand the emotional, physical, and psychological damage that you have inflicted upon your people?

Since the lockdown you have torn families apart, people dying on the island unable to seek proper medical care, forced people into homelessness, people struggling to survive due to unemployment, the list goes on...

We are oppressed and we will no longer remain silent or be intimidated by your fear tactics. Fear is a reaction. Courage is a decision.

Why is it that all our fellow neighbor islands with limited resources and money can repatriate their citizens successfully, while nothing is being done on your behalf?

Wake up! COVID-19 is here and it isn't going anywhere.

The definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. “Brave leaders are never silent around hard things” Brene Brown.

We must be proactive, not reactive during this pandemic. I pride myself on being Samoan but after the display of our current administration on handling the matter what an absolute shame.

Shame on you American Samoa Government!!!

Sincerely,

Epifania Rapozo
