Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata highlighted National Suicide Prevention Month (September) with the following statement:

“We are making progress in many areas of mental health and removing any outdated sense of stigma associated with seeking treatment or acknowledging a personal crisis. Suicide is a tragic, preventable outcome.

“This month is about learning what we can do in case it’s our loved one, friend or neighbor that we notice is going through something. Millions of people, from Veterans to young people, have called the lifeline to talk after experiencing suicidal thoughts, and found ready assistance. Let’s make sure together that everyone knows about available help.”
