Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Department of Human Resources director, Eseneiaso Liu says her office is waiting for government attorneys to provide information on the fees to be imposed for every payroll deduction transaction, before payroll deductions are officially reinstated.

Liu was responding to House Vice Speaker Fetu Fetui Jr.’s question as to why payroll deduction services have not resumed, although deductions have been reinstated. Fetui says this service will greatly assist his constituents in Manu’a.

DHR has overseen the Payroll Division for more than two years now.

ASG Treasury terminated payroll deductions in February 2013 because of the amount time that goes into providing this service free of charge to ASG employees. It was suggested two years ago that a fee be imposed on employees wanting payroll deductions, which is a convenient way for employees to pay their bills.

The government in July last year, was looking at $1 per transaction fee, as a way to earn additional revenue for ASG, whose semi autonomous entities such as the American Samoa Power Authority continue to provide payroll deductions for their employees.
