Man pleads guilty to burglarizing StarKist warehouse and NAPA

Pago Pago, AMARICAN SAMOA — A 31-year-old man who was accused of burglarizing a warehouse and a store in the Tafuna area and stole property has pled guilty, under a plea agreement. Tua’ifuaina Va’apu’u appeared in High Court last week for a Change of Plea hearing.

He was originally charged with 1st degree burglary and stealing, both class C felonies, however under a plea agreement with the government, which was accepted by the High Court last week, Va’apu’u pled guilty to the amended charged of 2nd degree burglary.

With his guilty plea, Mauga admits that on Mar. 31, 2018, he entered the StarKist Samoa Factory Warehouse building in Tafuna where he took a computer with a value of $896, and a computer bag valued at $30. Mauga admits that these items belonged to somebody else.

Moreover, Mauga also admits that on Mar. 1, 2018 he entered the NAPA building in Tafuna and took one oil box valued at $54 and vehicle parts with the value of $136.

As a condition of the signed agreement between the parties, the government is recommending a probation term of 5 years.

Sentencing for Mauga is scheduled for Sept. 6, 2018.
