Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A man detained by the police for 48 hours in connection with an attempted burglary of an ATM at the Laufou Shopping Center that occurred last Monday has been released.

According to police officers, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not permitted to engage with the media, the investigation did not yield sufficient evidence to warrant charges against the individual. Consequently, he was released from the Tafuna Correctional Facility after his detention.

Authorities also reported that a witness provided a detailed description of a vehicle observed at the scene earlier that Monday morning. When law enforcement officers arrived, they found the vehicle still at the scene. The driver of this vehicle was subsequently taken in for questioning to gather more information pertaining to the case.

The officer said that, at this point in the investigation, there is insufficient evidence to file charges against the suspect. However, the officer assured that the police are continuing their investigation to gather more information and clarify the circumstances surrounding the attempted ATM burglary.
