LBJ Hospital partners with TJ's Fitness Gym & Pala Lagoon Swimming Center

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Lyndon B. Johnson Tropical Medical Center (LBJTMC) announced on March 24, 2024, a partnership with TJ's Fitness Gym and Pala Lagoon Swimming Center, aimed at promoting health and wellness among its employees and their families.

According to the LBJTMC press release, the initiative is from the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Akapusi Ledua to underscore the organization's commitment to fostering a culture of self-care and vitality within its community.

Effective immediately, all LBJTMC employees will receive a special rate to TJ's Fitness Gym and Pala Lagoon Swimming Center.

For a minimum of 30 employees who sign up for TJs Fitness Gym, LBJTMC will pay 50% of the total gym membership fees, while employees  cover the remaining half.

This strategic collaboration is designed to encourage regular physical activity, which is essential for reducing the risk of chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and others.

Furthermore, LBJTMC will provide complimentary access to the swimming pool at Pala Lagoon Swimming Center for its employees.

To further promote healthy family lifestyles, Pala Lagoon Swimming Center is offering a generous 25% discount on memberships for dependents of LBJTMC employees. This special arrangement ensures that entire households can partake in activities that promote healthy living and foster familial bonds.

Paramount Chief Mauga Tasi Asuega, owner of TJs Fitness Gym stated, “ ‘Samoa Muamua le Atua’ or belief of our ancestors (that) we take care of our people — (the) relationship that was embedded in us to serve our people and that includes building relationships with the hospital.”

Pauga Joey Cummings, President of Pala Lagoon Swimming Center, expressed great enthusiasm for this partnership, stating, “Pala Lagoon Swimming Center is thrilled to partner with LBJ Tropical Medical Center.

“This wellness program is a testament to the hospital leadership's forward thinking and care for its employees.

“We welcome all organizations in American Samoa to make similar arrangements.

“Everything gets better once we get in the water and move around.

“Your community swimming pool is a place for wellness, education and fun.”

Speaking of the partnership, Dr. Ledua expressed appreciation to TJs Fitness Gym and Pala Lagoon Swimming Center for their support in providing such incentives to the LBJTMC family.
