Hawaiian Air cancels Monday, March 23 flight between HNL and PPG

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Hawaiian Airlines is cancelling its flight Monday, Mar. 23rd, between Honolulu and Pago Pago citing current measures implemented to combat the global coronavirus threat.

American Samoa is also implementing new stringent emergency measures effective Monday, with the territory activating Code-Blue.

The Hawaii state Department of Health said Thursday afternoon that the number of people who tested positive of the virus as reached 26 — which includes a state lawmaker.  

Hawaiian Airlines’ Pago Pago office issued a memo to American Samoa officials Thursday night saying that with the “current state of emergency and necessary measures to prevent and contain the imminent threat of COVID-19 virus” the airline’s flight Monday “will be cancelled.”

The flight next week Thursday, Mar. 26th, will continue to operate with normal arrival and departure.

Hawaiian Airlines early this week announced the reduction of its flight schedule by nearly 40% in April as it deals with increasing coronavirus cases. It has already suspended flights to some international destinations such as Pape’ete, Tahiti; Auckland, New Zealand; and Sydney, Australia.
