Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The ASG Treasury department is releasing the first batch of local tax refund checks for 2023 filings, today, March 1.

 ASG Treasurer Malemo Tausaga says the first batch will include checks for 1,473 taxpayers who filed their taxes between January 1 and January 29, for a total of $7.5 million. They will be getting their refunds through direct deposits, the U.S Post Office and pick up at the Treasury’s Disbursing Office on the ground floor of the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building (EOB) in Utulei.

Local refunds amount to $3.8 million, Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) checks total $848,538, and Earned Income Tax Credit checks (EITC) amount to $2.8 million.

 ACTC and EITC portions of tax refunds are federally funded.

Treasury says that if you are expecting your refund and did not receive it, please call (633-4181) or visit the Tax Office — the ground floor of the EOB — for further information and assistance.
