Video: Warriors and Vikings top Week 1 of ASHSAA football
This year’s season opener for the Varsity Division was an eye opener for most of the teams that are competing in this year’s league — it took place last Wednesday morning at the Veterans Memorial Stadium.

In a mind boggling opening game of the season, the undefeated 2013- 14 ASHSAA Football Champions, the Tafuna Warriors faced off against the Samoana Sharks with the Sharks leading over the Warriors the majority of the first half until half time. But, it was all Tafuna by full time of the match, with the Warriors coming back from a 14-point trail to blow the Sharks out in a 64 - 26 come-behind-victory.
For the Vikings and Lions, the Eastern Side pride did a great job against Leone, in a tough match up that went into half time as a tied game. But not for long – the Vikings, in a familiar pattern of play, came out in the second half and spiked out the Lions in a trail of dust sending them home with a 32 - 21 loss.
Samoa News has selected Logan Tago, the Senior Wide Receiver out of Samoana High School as the Player of the Week for week No.1 of ASHSAA Football.
Play of the Week is awarded to Tafuna High Schools Senior Middle Linebacker Cornelius Maiava, who picked off a pass from Samoana’s Fauuga Naiuli, and returned the interception for a 46-yard-touchdown — the only interception to go back for a touchdown in week 1 of ASHSAA Football.
