Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Local absentee voting got underway on Monday, September 7, 2026, in order to provide assistance to voters who might be traveling during this period and thus may not be able to cast their ballots in the Midterm Election scheduled for November 3, 2026.

To better serve the public, the Election Office will remain open on Saturdays and designated holidays, providing opportunities to submit local and outside absentee ballots, as well as to assist with voter registration services. The Office will be open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Absentee voting will continue to be available until November 2, 2026, with the office closing at 4:30 PM on that last day. 

To participate in local absentee voting, you will need to present your airline ticket alongside your voter registration ID. 

For eligible voters residing off the island, specific criteria qualify you for absentee voting, as outlined in section 6.1101 (C)(1). The following categories are eligible, according to American Samoa Chief Election Officer Uiagalelei Lealofi:

1. Active service members in the U.S. military, along with their spouses and dependents. 
2. Employees of the United States Government. 
3. Employees of the American Samoa Government. 
4. Students who are attending an institution of higher learning. 
5. Overseas voters participating in the election for the Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives.

For those who meet these qualifications, ASG Form EO-08 can be accessed and downloaded from the Election Office website at www.aselectionoffice.gov
