Washington, D.C. — Thursday, September 17, 2020 — Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed Committee action late last week and progress on a number of Veterans’ bills, including several she has cosponsored.

Congresswoman Amata took part in this hearing remotely on September 10th, in which the Committee examined a variety of new legislation, beginning or continuing work on 32 legislative ideas. Many of these are at the discussion draft stage, and others already introduced as legislation. Among these are three bills that Congresswoman Amata has cosponsored:

¥    H.R. 7504 - VA Clinical TEAM Culture Act of 2020 (with Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Delaware),
¥    H.R. 7888 - REACH VET Reporting Act (with Rep. Torres Small, D-New Mexico),
¥    H.R. 3788 - VA Child Care Protection Act of 2019 (with Rep. Andy Barr, R-Kentucky).
In particular, the REACH VET Reporting Act is one which Congresswoman Amata helped introduce as the original cosponsor, and has also welcomed a companion effort in the Senate, which strengthens the opportunity to see the legislation completed this year.

“I’m pleased to see these efforts to move forward without delay to get helpful legislative priorities over the finish line this year, despite the pandemic-related changes in scheduling and methods,” said Aumua Amata. “Improving the REACH VET analysis and available information can help save the lives of any of our Veterans who might be going through an unseen struggle. I appreciate the focus on our bill during this National Suicide Prevention Month.”
