Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Two police officers involved in a traffic accident yesterday morning in Tafuna suffered injuries, one had a broken leg.

The Traffic officers were taken to the LBJ hospital and members of the public were seen giving the officers assistance while they waited for the Emergency Medical Services to arrive at the scene.

Samoa News made numerous efforts to get comments from the Acting Police Commissioner, Vaipuna Foifua but were unsuccessful, however deputy police commissioner, Terry Letuli told government media that the officers are in “critical but stable condition.”

He said one of the Officers suffered a broken leg and will require surgery.

“The other Officer requires MRI scan as he too is in a lot of pain.”

He further stated that the two officers were responding to an accident on the west side when a vehicle suddenly entered the main road from the side of the stadium.

“Due to the close distance between the vehicle and the two motorcycles” it led to the accident.  He also commended members of the public that assisted the officers immediately after the accident.

Traffic was backed up for close to an hour in the Tafuna area as a result.
