Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — More than $3.4 million in tax refund checks covering both local and the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC)  will be released tomorrow, Wednesday June 26.

ASG officials say tax refunds of such a large amount, will give local residents more buying power, “putting more money into our economy, as we are in the summer months.”

In a brief statement yesterday, ASG Treasurer, Uelinitone Tonumaipe’a said tomorrow’s tax refunds are for taxpayers who filed between Feb. 5 and Feb. 15. And the run covers 1,693 qualified taxpayers.

Of the more than $3.44 million in total refunds set to be released tomorrow, over $2.20 million is for ACTC — which is funded by the US Internal Revenue Service — and just over $1.13 million for local.

Tonumaipe’a says if the taxpayer filed within the aforementioned period and does not get a tax refund check, please call or visit the Tax Office and enquire with the Tax Office Customer Service.

He advises all taxpayers to check with the Tax Office first, before standing in line at the Treasury Disbursing Office.

Release of this latest tax refund batch comes at a time when there are many events and activities planned for the summer, including local athletes, coaches, and residents planning to travel to Apia early next month for the Pacific Games.

Athletes and coaches will start heading to Samoa later next week.
