Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — StarKist Samoa, the largest private employer in the territory, has no production today, Thursday, and tomorrow, Friday — which has also been declared by Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga as a government holiday on July 3rd in observance of the 4th of July, U.S. Independence Day holiday, which falls on a Saturday.

During the two-day shutdown, the “plant will be doing planned maintenance and facilities upgrade work during this holiday weekend, and will resume normal production on Monday, July 6th,” said StarKist corporate spokesperson Michelle Faist said Tuesday, responding to Samoa News inquiries.

Some businesses will also close Friday, including Territorial Bank of American Samoa and ANZ Ameirka Samoa Bank. The two banks will also close on Saturday (which usually opens half-day) with normal operations to resume next Monday, according to bank officials.
