Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Last week, District Court Judge Elvis P. Patea sentenced Edward Sauvao to 10 days behind bars, after being convicted of public peace disturbance while on probation.

“This is how things work in this courtroom; once you violate a condition of your probation, we’re no longer talking about counseling, we’re talking about jail terms, and that’s what you get for disobeying the court's order," Patea said.

“So, if you want to try the court again, go ahead because your next conviction will be higher than this one,” Patea told Sauvao during sentencing last week. Sauvao Jr was on probation for 6 months after he was convicted last year of public peace disturbance, a class B misdemeanor. One of the many conditions of probation include keeping the peace with his girlfriend and remaining law abiding.

Late last year, police re-arrested him on another PPD charge for which he was convicted last Friday, the same date he was sentenced to 10 days incarceration for violating his 12-month probation. Sauvao will have to spend 5 weekends at the TCF to cover his 10-day detention period. He was ordered to report to the TCF on Friday (Feb. 7) at 6 p.m. and be released on Sunday at 6 p.m. starting this weekend, until the last weekend — Mar. 6-8, 2020.
