Pago Pago, American Samoa — Port Administration American Samoa (PAAS) has received funding from the Department of Interior (DOI) Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) Capital Improvement Project (CIP) grant to fund the repairs and renovations to the ‘Au’asi Small Boat Harbor Terminal Restrooms in Au’asi, Eastern District, American Samoa.

The Project will focus on Interior Renovations and includes replacing all failed restroom fixtures, such as sinks, toilets, partitions, urinals, and flooring (interior tiles). There will also be the Installation of new light fixtures and repainting of walls. If sufficient funding remains, the project will also address a deteriorating roof and water blast/repaint the exterior of the building.

The restrooms have been closed since December 6, 2022, due to health and safety violations cited by the Department of Health (DOH). This closure has caused significant hardship for students and passengers who use the harbor as a primary transportation link to Aunu'u Island.

The project is covered under a categorical exclusion for the operation, maintenance, and replacement of existing facilities, as it is not expected to have significant environmental impacts. The project is currently in the permitting and design development phase and is anticipated to be sent out for bid by August 2026.
