LBJ Tropical Medical Center welcomes Dr. Hathaway to their medical team
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — LBJ Hospital has added a gynecological surgeon to their medical team bolstering the center's capabilities in providing high-quality healthcare to the people of American Samoa, according to the hospital in a media release.
Dr. Jon Hathaway brings with him a wealth of expertise in minimally invasive gynecological surgery, A seasoned professional in the field, Dr. Hathaway's journey to American Samoa is marked by a commitment to enhancing medical care in the South Pacific. After completing his education at Brigham Young University and the University of Cincinnati, where he earned both a medical degree and a PhD, Dr. Hathaway dedicated himself to teaching and practicing obstetrics and gynecology at Indiana University for over 18 years.
His connection with American Samoa began in 2009 when he initiated discussions with Dr. Muasau-Howard, ultimately leading to his first visit to the island in 2011. Since then, Dr. Hathaway has made annual visits, sharing his expertise in laparoscopic surgery and hysteroscopy with local doctors at LBJ Tropical Medical Center.
Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Hathaway expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the healthcare landscape of American Samoa, along with the move to the territory with his wife.
"Now that all of our kids are adults, we can both come here for longer times and her career, as a life coach for middle-aged women, is all over the internet so she can come with me (referring to his wife, Tanya Hale)," said Dr. Hathaway. "It's been a real blessing to have her here this month and have her meet all the wonderful Samoan people and eat all the wonderful Samoan food."
Dr. Malouamaua Tuiolosega, Chairman of the LBJ Tropical Medical Center Board of Directors said of Dr. Hathaway’s arrival, it “marks a pivotal moment for healthcare in American Samoa.
