Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga has declared that Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 3, is a day of “celebration, recognizing and acknowledging the contributions of American Samoa’s working men and women — past, present and future — towards the betterment of our society the quality of our people’s lives.”

Because of Labor Day, which is a local and national holiday, all government offices will be closed. A majority of the private sector, including the banks, are also closed on that day.

Today, sets the tone for the three-day Labor Day weekend, with the 6th annual Workforce Day, organized by the government and starting at 6:30a.m., at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

At last week’s cabinet meeting, Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga reiterated the importance of the Workforce Day and for the ASG planning committee to include the private sector.

For ASG workers, Lolo told directors for all employees to attend the event, saying that it doesn’t look good when there are employees in offices. However, today is still an ASG work day, he said.

In observance of Labor Day, Samoa News will not publish on Monday.
