Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Letitia Mautumua Peau-Folau has been appointed as Acting Director for the American Samoa Historic Preservation Office (ASHPO).

Staff told Samoa News their director Tuimalo Elvis Zodiacal, who was charged with DUI recently, had his employment terminated.

To date there has been no official response from the governor’s office regarding the action taken against Mr. Zodiacal, who was apparently served with a termination letter last week, a few days after his appearance in the District Court.

As reported earlier, the Cabinet member was arrested two Saturdays ago for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI).

Police say that the government vehicle allocated to him was impounded as a result by officers with the Traffic Division of the Department of Public Safety.

Tuimalo was appointed as Director in 2021 by Governor Lemanu P. S. Mauga to oversee the Historic Preservation Office — which is part of the Governor’s Office.

Tuimalo is also a member of the Feleti Barstow Public Library board.

Samoa News made repeated efforts to get comments from Tuimalo and the Acting Police Commissioner Fo’ifua Vaipuna but were unsuccessful as of press time.

The defendant is scheduled to appear in the District Court for his status hearing later this week.

Meantime, on Friday, Governor Lemanu appointed Peau-Folau as Acting Executive Director of ASHPO. She was the director of the agency, during the Lolo-Lemanu Administration.
