Gusty winds, heavy rains for American Samoa through Monday night

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA —Gusty northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph, and a period of locally heavy rainfall, are expected into this evening.

A Flash Flood Watch continues for all islands of American Samoa through tonight.  Earlier, a Flash Flood Warning that expired at 4 AM and was in effect for Tutuila and Aunu'u. and is now downgraded to a Flash Flood Watch.

An active monsoonal trough will shift along the islands to continue bringing occasional showers with periods of heavy rain and embedded thunderstorms.

As grounds are saturated from   previous showers, it is likely that there will be landslides, mudslides, and flooding in flood prone areas. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

HIGH SURF ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT 
Surf of 10 to 12 feet will continue to impact north facing shores due to large northerly swells through Monday night  
IMPACT: Large surf and strong rip currents. 
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: A high surf advisory indicates large breaking waves will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing dangerous rip currents and localized beach erosion. Also, it is extremely dangerous to fish or observe waves from rocks during high surf conditions. Unwary beach walkers can be caught off guard as waves suddenly race farther up the beach than normal.

TODAY: Northwest winds 25 to 30 kt with higher gusts. Seas 8 to 10 ft. with numerous showers. 
TONIGHT: Northwest winds 25 to 30 kts with higher gusts. Seas 8 to 10 ft. numerous showers. 
TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT: South winds 10 to 15 kts. seas 7 to 9 ft. Scattered showers. 
THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY: Variable winds 10 to 15 kts. Seas 8 to 10 ft. Isolated showers.
