ASG again providing free tax service for filers under a certain income level
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Treasury Department’s Tax Office is again prepared to offer its free tax filing assistance program for tax payers with certain income levels.
In a statement Friday, ASG Treasurer Uelinitone Tonumaipe’a said the program starts Tuesday, Jan. 21 for tax payers filing basic returns — for example Form 390EZ and Form 390 - with the following limitations:
• single & married filing separately - $25,000 income limit
• married filing jointly, head of household & qualifying widower - $50,000 income limit
This program “does NOT include” any filings with attached schedules or business tax returns, according to Treasury.
Tax filing above the income limit amounts and/or are required to file schedules and business returns are “advised and encouraged” by Treasury to seek assistance with a private tax preparer or professional “of your choice.”
A valid form of ID is required to verify the tax filer’s identity at the time of filing.
See Tuesday’s edition for details as well as a warning to local tax payers.
