American Samoa appoints acting insurance commissioner

Lt. Gov. Lemanu Sialega Palepoi Mauga

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — In his capacity as Acting Governor, Lt. Gov. Lemanu Sialega Palepoi Mauga has appointed Mrs. Elizabeth Perri to assume the post of Acting Insurance Commissioner, effective immediately, until a permanent appointment is made.

This is according to Lemanu’s July 26 memo. Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga is currently off island for medical appointments in Honolulu and expected back on island this week.

“Given that we still have to secure insurance reimbursements on the cost of damages inflicted by [Tropical Storm] Gita, please work collaboratively with her and her staff to make sure that the American Samoa Government receives fair insurance compensation for all the damages suffered facilitating rehabilitation of destroyed government facilities and equipment,” Lemanu said in the memo to cabinet members.

He also said that all matters pertaining to ASG’s insurance policy are to be referred to Perri, who “shall deal directly with our Insurance Carrier hence all issues pertaining to our Insurance Policy are to be channeled through her.”

There hasn’t been any updated information from the Governor’s Office as to the status of Peter Fuimaono, who was appointed last year as Insurance Commissioner.
