WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Natural Resources Chairman Rob Bishop (UT-01) on Thursday announced the subcommittee chairmen and rosters for the Committee’s Republican members during the 114th Congress.  Details for the Committee’s formal organizational meeting will be announced in the near future.

“Promoting the responsible development of our domestic energy resources, active management of Federal lands, greater collaboration with our state, tribal and local partners, and examining federal regulatory overreach into these areas will be at forefront of the Natural Resources Committee agenda in the 114th Congress,” stated Chairman Bishop. “Our subcommittees will guide these priorities, and today I’m proud to announce the Republican members who will lead these efforts over the next two years.”

Congresswoman Aumua Amata was chosen by the Chairman to be a member of two subcommittees:  Subcommittee on Indian, Insular and Alaska Native Affairs and Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations.  In addition to being a member, she was also selected to be the Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Indian, Insular and Alaska Native Affairs.

"I am grateful to Chairman Bishop for this appointment and look forward with great enthusiasm to working side by side with Chairman Don Young, who is Chairman Emeritus of the full committee, the Dean of the Republican Conference and, aside from the island Members, is perhaps the single most knowledgeable Member of the House on insular issues.  I expect this subcommittee to be very active.  I also thank Chairman Bishop for appointing me to the new Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. 

Congress has the responsibility for not only passing federal laws but it also has the responsibility of monitoring the activities of the Executive Branch to make sure those laws are being executed faithfully.  I will look forward to serving on this subcommittee as well." Amata will be part of Chairman Bishop's 12-member leadership team on the Natural Resources Committee. Democrats will announce their leadership on the subcommittee separately, at another time.
