Samoan language ‘webinar’ to explain Obamacare

Congressman Faleomavaega on Friday announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS) and the Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) will present “The Healthcare Law and You: O 'Oe ma le Tūlāfono o Tausiga Fa'asoifua Mālōlōina,” a live online Samoan language webinar on Monday July 1, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The Samoan language webinar will feature Dorothy Vaivao from the Samoan National Nurses Association, who will speak about how the Affordable Care Act will increase health care access and reduce health care disparities.  Participants may register at the following website: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/404581426

Sponsored by APIAHF and the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS), the webinar is part of a larger multi-lingual effort to educate Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders about the benefits of the Affordable Care Act. Translated presentations are also available on APIAHF’s website: http://www.apiahf.org/policy-and-advocacy/health-care-reform-resource-center/in-language-resources.

Translations were provided by CMS’ Office of Public Engagement and reviewed by community partner organizations. Other languages include the following: Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Hindi, Bengali, Hmong, Khmer, Laotian, and Tongan.

“I am pleased to know that this important outreach effort by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum will serve as a resource for our Samoan community to learn more about the many healthcare benefits of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare,” Faleomavaega stated.

“I thank the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for making these resources available to our community. I also extend my deep gratitude to the Asian Pacific Islander American Health Forum for their advocacy in addressing language barriers not only for our Samoan community, but also for the greater Asian American and Pacific Islander community,” the Congressman added.

“I encourage Samoans across the country to register and learn more about how the Affordable Care Act will help them and their families,” Faleomavaega concluded.
