Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — American Samoa can expect periods of locally heavy rainfall capable of producing Flash Flooding, along with elevated winds over 25 to 30 mph through the weekend.

Current trends suggest that the risk of heavy rainfall and strong winds will linger into the beginning of the upcoming work week.

There is a Flash Flood Watch for Tutuila Aunu`u and Manu`a through Saturday

An active trough edging southwest of the territory will increase the chance of flash flooding conditions.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

Also a Wind Advisory remains in effect for Tutuila, Aunu`u and Manu`a.

A strong high pressure system anchored near New Zealand and a trough over the islands will generate winds of 25 to 35 mph, with higher gusts through Monday

Gusty winds will make driving difficult. Expect possible downed power lines, blow down trees, loose and unsecured objects shifting, minor damages to roofs.
