This is a special bulletin from the American Samoa Department of Homeland Security – TEMCO issued at 7:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2018.

The National Weather Service has issued a HIGH SURF WARNING for Tutuila, Aunu’u, and Manu’a Islands coastal waters.

The National Weather Service is reporting dangerous surfs of 10 to 13 feet will impact south facing shores of all islands due to a large south swell reaching shores this afternoon. Expect higher than normal surfs to pound the shorelines and some coastal inundation to occur.

Residents residing in coastal areas prone to large breaking waves are urged to make preparations and take precautionary measures for safety and to protect life and property. Residents driving near or walking at the shoreline are urged to take precautionary measures to protect from high surf, dangerous rip currents, and beach erosion conditions.

The National Weather Service has also advised of a HIGH SURF WARNING for all shores for Tutuila, Aunu’u, and Manu’a islands.

The American Samoa Department of Homeland Security – TEMCO continues to monitor the situation and we will issue further bulletins if necessary. Report any weather related incident to the EOC at 699-0411/699-3800 or Police at 633-1111.
