Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA —  LBJ Tropical Medical Center (LBJTMC) has announced its partnership with the Department of Education's Career and Technical Education (CTE) Division to launch the Work-Based Learning Experience Program (WBLEP).

The Work-Based Learning Experience Program is designed to empower high school seniors by offering them the opportunity to engage in hands-on job activities.

Through this initiative, students will gain insights into various professions, develop essential skills, and explore potential career paths. Moreover, participating in work-site experiences at LBJTMC will not only equip students with knowledge and abilities but also open doors to future professional and educational opportunities.

Nuuuli Vocational Technical High School was among the institutions that actively participated in the program, with 13 senior students enrolled in the Basic Construction and Technical course (BCT).

These students worked at LBJTMC for a duration of 10 weeks, which began on February 12 and continued on to April 12, 2024.

During their tenure at LBJTMC, students were exposed to various divisions, including BioMed, Civil Engineering, Facilities Maintenance, Cabinetry, A/C, and Trouble Calls.

Chairman of the LBJTMC Board of Directors, Dr. Malouamaua Tuiolosega, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "The LBJTMC Board of Directors and I highly support the collaboration with the Department of Education's Career and Technical Education Division to introduce the Work-Based Learning Experience Program. By providing students with hands-on learning opportunities, we aim to inspire and prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals. This initiative aligns with our commitment to community development and education."

LBJTMC CEO Dr. Akapusi Ledua emphasized the significance of practical learning experiences in shaping students' future careers.
