Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is happy to announce that Victor Chen has been accepted to the U.S. Air Force Academy, his first choice of the nation’s prestigious Service Academies.

“I’m very pleased to announce a fully qualified appointment for Victor Chen to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado,” said Aumua Amata. “Congratulations to Victor, and to his proud parents, Michelle and Manua Chen.”

This is the first acceptance notification from the exceptional class of nominations submitted by Congresswoman Amata in January.

Victor was educated in American Samoa and graduated from Pacific Horizon High School, and co-enrolled for coursework at Stanford University.

In addition to high academics and excellent SAT test scores, he was further qualified through an impressive list of activities, volunteering and leadership roles.

These include an ASPA internship focused on meteorological data; leading beach cleanups and aluminum recycling efforts; volunteering with Boys and Girls Club; President and Treasurer of his school National Honor Society; co-founder and Secretary of ASCCA Youth Club. Other athletic, music and educational activities included American Samoa Sailing; Junior Golf; President of PHS Technology Club; Onnuri Piano Academy recitals; Vice President of school Debate Club; and PHS basketball co-captain. Various other recognitions are Regeneron ISEF 2020 Finalist; National Merit Scolarship Semifinalist; First overall in island wide math competition in 9th and 10th grades; ASCLA National Champion laser class sailing; and led school Underwater ROV team and placed first in Underwater ROV competition.

“The Air Force Academy acceptance is a wonderful, well-deserved opportunity for Victor,” Amata said. “It takes hard work and perseverance to attain the necessary academics, and be ready to take on the next challenge in one of our nation’s superb Service Academies. Congratulations also to all the local educators and other family and friends involved along the way.”
