Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Samoa Observer is reporting police have confirmed that American Samoa is the most common route for methamphetamine importation into the independent country, and children are being used to sell the drugs. Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo said Samoa is no longer just a transit for meth, but it's now another market.

"Our concern now is that it has been confirmed that children are now involved and are being used as sellers for this hard drug," Auapaau said.

Auapaau said the police will continue their mission to find all people involved with drugs and make them pay for their crimes.

Auapaau didn't confirm the number of children involved in selling drugs but said they are continuing their investigations.

The meth crisis has been described as an epidemic with American Samoa confirmed as the major supplier. Auapaau said they are working hand in hand with the Customs Department to put a stop to this.

The latest police drug bust at Nuu-Fou, Lotofaga, Safata and Alafua led to the arrest of five men, one is the son of the caretaker Speaker of Parliament, Afualo Daryl Mapu.
