Completion of new Airport Terminal parking lot expansion targeted for June 2027
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMMOA — The Port Administration of American Samoa (PAAS) has provided an update on the development of the Airport Terminal Parking Lot Expansion Project at the Pago Pago International Airport (PPG). The critical infrastructure project is moving forward steadily with overall completion of 35%, and target completion date of June 30, 2027, according to the media release.
PAAS Director Barney Sene said, “The Airport Terminal Parking Lot Expansion Project represents an important investment in the future of the Pago Pago International Airport and the infrastructure needed to support the new Airport Terminal Facility construction. Although much of the current work is taking place underground and may not be readily visible to the public, these improvements to the drainage, sanitary, power, and utility systems are essential components of the overall new airport terminal project. We are pleased with the progress being made and appreciate the continued efforts of our contractor and utility partners.”
The Director added, “We understand that construction activities can create temporary challenges for our airport users and the community. We greatly appreciate the patience, cooperation, and understanding of our travelers, visitors, and residents as this important work continues. Our priority remains completing the project safely and efficiently while maintaining continuous airport operations.”
Contractor Paramount Builders, Inc. has maintained an active pace of work despite recent rainy weather. Construction activities are currently focused on vital underground drainage and utility infrastructure to support the future new Airport Terminal Facility. Recent progress includes:

DRAINAGE AND STRUCTURES:
Completion of cast-in-place concrete culverts, structure base pours, and formwork, including the pouring of storm structures and protective concrete covers.
SANITARY SUSTEMS:
Successful installation of 160 linear feet of 12-inch sanitary piping on the north side of the site, alongside necessary density testing.
UTILITY MODERNAZATION:
Close coordination with local utility providers to manage underground power connections, safely navigate junction box placements, and install utility poles to support temporary telecommunications cables to the airport terminal.
To maintain an active and safe construction zone while ensuring continuous airport operations, a public traffic setup has been established at the main parking lot entrance and exit. This requires a temporary road rerouting, complete with specialized striping patterns, directional signs, and safety barricades.
PAAS acknowledges that navigating construction zones can be challenging and extends its formal appreciation to the public, airport travelers, visitors, and the wider community for their continued patience, cooperation, and understanding as we build a more modern, secure, and optimal facility to serve American Samoa.
The Terminal Parking Lot Expansion Project is an important step toward providing a more modern, secure, efficient, and functional airport facility to better serve the people of American Samoa and visitors to the territory.
