AS Democratic Party condemns Trump’s attacks on Pope
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The American Samoa Democratic Party strongly condemns recent actions by President Donald Trump, including sharing an image portraying himself as a Jesus-like figure during the month of Easter and as the world prayerfully observed Christ’s Resurrection.
Our faith is central to who we are as a community. Attempts to portray oneself as Jesus Christ are deeply offensive to many and diminish the values that our communities hold dear.
To add insult to injury, the President waged attacks on Pope Leo XIV who has been calling for peace and an end to violence amid the escalating conflict in Iran, highlighting the devastating human cost of war and its impact on innocent lives.
“It is unacceptable to mock what people hold sacred while attacking those who are advocating for peace,” Party Chair Patrick Ti’a Reid stated. “This kind of rhetoric disrespects our faith and distracts from the real atrocities and human suffering around the world.”
The Party emphasizes that leadership should unite people and uphold respect, especially in times of global instability.
