Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On November 9, 2024, a female individual called the Fagatogo Police Station (FPS) to report an alleged peace disturbance case involving a male individual who was intoxicated.

The defendant was apprehended and charged with Count 1: Public Peace Disturbance, a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of $500, or both.

There was no bail stated on the court affidavit for the defendant.

According to the court affidavit, on Nov. 9th, at about 10:20 p.m., a female individual contacted the FPS to report a disturbance from her neighbor’s house.

Police officers responded to the call and upon arrival at the scene, the officers observed a shirtless male individual (later identified as James Savea/ suspect) who was yelling out profanities in Samoan.

As the police units approached the scene, the suspect headed straight to the police unit and yelled out profanities and said “ Take me away”. Neighbors were noticeably alerted and started to stand outside of their residences. The suspect’s family was holding him and trying to calm him down and the family members also stated that the suspect was intoxicated.

The officers placed the suspect in the police unit to be transported to the FPS.

Upon arrival at the station, the suspect was brought in to be questioned but the suspect was too intoxicated to comply.

During the booking process, the officers conducted a full body search and felt an item in the suspect’s pocket. The suspect was asked if it’s a lighter and he replied “yes”, however, when the item was pulled out to be placed on the table it was not a lighter. The item appeared to be a glass pipe and the Vice & Narcotics Unit was then notified.

James Savea was then booked and transported to the Tafuna Correctional Facility for confinement awaiting the next sitting of the District Court.
