Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On December 20, 2025, an Ottoville resident was arrested Saturday evening following a reported trespassing incident.

The suspect was arrested and charged with Count 1: Trespass, a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six months, a fine not to exceed $500, or both imprisonment and fine.

The defendant was held without bail.

According to the court affidavit filed in the District Court on Dec. 22, 2025, the Tafuna Police Substation (TPS) received a call from a woman requesting immediate assistance, reporting that a man had entered her residence without permission, prompting fears for her personal safety and leading authorities to classify the incident as a priority response.

Officers were immediately dispatched to the Ottoville area and upon arrival made contact with the reporting party, who appeared visibly shaken and directed them to the man she identified as the intruder. The man was later identified as Afa Elenio, a neighbor who resides in close proximity to the reporting party.

As officers approached the suspect, they observed signs consistent with intoxication, including slurred speech and unsteady movement. The suspect was apprehended at the scene without resistance and placed inside a police unit. Officers then secured the area and continued their investigation by interviewing the reporting party.

Following the on-scene investigation, the suspect was transported to the TPS for further questioning and processing.

Police later reported that the woman stated she had been asleep inside her bedroom when she suddenly woke up and saw the suspect standing inside the room. Alarmed and confused, she immediately yelled at him, demanding to know why he was inside her home.

According to her account, the suspect told her that he had come to return a laptop computer. The woman stated that she immediately ordered the suspect to leave her home and contacted police shortly afterward.

She emphasized that the suspect did not have permission to enter her residence and that his presence inside her bedroom caused her to fear for her safety.

Before questioning, the suspect was advised of his constitutional rights. Police said he acknowledged that he understood his rights, waived them, and he agreed to provide a verbal statement regarding the incident.

During the interview, the suspect offered a different version of events. He claimed that he had not unlawfully entered the residence and stated that he was only attempting to close a door. According to the suspect, the woman woke up, began yelling at him, and he exited the house.

He told police that after leaving the residence, he continued drinking in front of his own home and later observed police units arriving in the area.

Police noted inconsistencies between the suspect’s statement and the account provided by the reporting party. Officers also took into consideration the suspect’s level of intoxication at the time of contact, as well as the circumstances under which he was found at the scene.

Following the interview, officers completed the booking process.

Afa Elenio was formally charged and transported to the Tafuna Correctional Facility, where he was confined pending the next sitting of the District Court.

Authorities also noted that the suspect and the reporting party are neighbors.

Officers reiterated that individuals who feel unsafe or discover unauthorized persons inside their homes should immediately contact police rather than attempt to confront the intruder themselves.

The defendant is identified as a 29 year-old citizen of Samoa.
