Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Executive Officer Building (EOB) in Ofu has been officially closed due to serious safety concerns, specifically a significant water leakage issue that jeopardizes the structure's integrity. This decision also impacted local healthcare services, as the Ofu Health Clinic, which operates within the EOB, has been shut down. The EOB is critical for the administrative functions of the American Samoa Government (ASG), serving the communities of Ofu, Olosega, and Sili.

In addition to the EOB closure, schools across the Manuʻa Islands, specifically in Fitiuta, Olosega, and Faleasao, have also closed their doors. This widespread closure comes as part of a response to unfavorable conditions reported by health officials. The cafeteria at Manu'a High School has closed as well, leaving students without access to crucial meal services during their school day.

Dr. Saipale Fuimaono, the Director of Health, provided these updates during a detailed interview with KVZK TV, where he addressed concerns about student welfare and educational continuity. He explained that the high school cafeteria was shut down due to unsanitary conditions that failed to meet health standards, significantly affecting the students' ability to attend school and receive meals in a safe environment. Dr. Fuimaono assured the public that the Department of Education is actively engaged in discussions to formulate a plan for the affected schools in Manuʻa.

Moreover, in light of these challenges, students at Olosega Elementary School are transitioning to virtual learning. An announcement on the school's official Facebook page stated that the physical campus will remain closed until further notice to safeguard the health of both students and staff. To facilitate uninterrupted education, all classes will commence online starting today. The Department of Health had previously visited Olosega Elementary on a Monday, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring that the school's facilities adhere to the highest hygiene and safety standards.

Furthermore, the Manuʻatele Community Worldwide Facebook page reported that the American Samoa Department of Health (ASDOH) mandated the closure of the Ta’ū Health Clinic alongside Faleāsao and Fitiuta Elementary Schools due to unsanitary and hazardous conditions.

As of February 23, 2026, additional closures include:

- Faleāsao Elementary – Fully closed

- Fitiuta Elementary – Fully closed

- Olosega Elementary – Fully closed

- Manu’a High School – Cafeteria closed

- Ta’ū Early Childhood Education (ECE) center, which has successfully passed health inspections.

This coordinated response reflects the ongoing efforts of the ASDOH and local education authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the community amidst these troubling circumstances.
