Mother calls for son’s arrest after allegedly causing trouble at home
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On October 19, 2024, a concerned mother contacted the Fagatogo Police Station to request assistance with her son who was allegedly causing a disturbance at the family’s residence.
Mickey Tipoti was apprehended and charged with:
Private Peace Disturbance (DV), a class C misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to fifteen days, a fine of $300, or both.
The defendant’s bail was set at $100.
According to the affidavit, on October 19th, at bout 10:54 p.m., a female individual (reporter) contacted the FPS to report that her son Mikey Tipoti (suspect) was drunk and causing a disturbance at their residence.
Police officers were dispatched to the scene and upon arrival they observed a male individual standing outside the house with a female individual. The female individual introduced herself as the reporter and told the officers that the suspect was in the house and that she wanted him taken away from their residence.
Authorities approached the residence and asked the suspect to step out of the house to which the suspect exited the house and approached the officers. He introduced himself as Micky Tipoti and he was then notified by the police that he would be taken to the FPS for further investigation. He complied and put his hands behind his back.
While officers escorted the suspect to the unit, they detected a strong smell of alcohol coming from him which police said indicated that the suspect was intoxicated.
According to the suspect’s mother, they had just finished Bingo and were coming up to the house, when the suspect started speaking profanities.
They continued to the house where the suspect allegedly started an altercation with his younger brother. The mother stated that the suspect was out of control and that’s why she called the police for assistance.
The mother also verbally stated that she does not want the suspect at their residence because his behavior has become a habit. The mother further explained that her younger son was protecting her from the suspect, who was yelling profanities and walking towards her and that’s why the suspect shoved her younger son away.
Upon arrival at the FPS at 12:05 a.m., the Mr. Tipoti was Mirandized and he agreed to give a written statement.
The suspect stated that his mother thought he was out of control when he got mad at his little brother and he yelled profanities and raised his voice. He also stated that his mother blamed him for starting the altercation but he claimed that his younger brother struck his face with a closed fist.
The suspect was booked and transported to the Tafuna Correctional Facility for confinement and to await the next available sitting of the District Court.
The defendant is identified as a 23-year-old U.S national.
