Man with outstanding warrants arrested for trying to break into a parked car
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A young man with a pair of outstanding bench warrants in the High Court was arrested by police for allegedly trying to break into a vehicle that was parked at the LBJ parking lot Tuesday afternoon.
Lauolefiso Naea made his initial appearance in District Court Wednesday morning where Judge Pro Temp Gwen Tauiliili-Langkilde ordered him released on his own recognizance, under certain conditions, which include making all of his court appearances and remaining in close contact with his lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Ryan Anderson.
Naea is charged with attempted stealing and public peace disturbance, both class A misdemeanors.
According to the government’s case, an eye witness contacted police from the LBJ parking lot Tuesday afternoon, after seeing what appeared to be someone trying to break into a parked vehicle.
Several police officers responded and found Naea near the scene. While processing him for booking, police officers discovered that Naea has 2 outstanding warrants for failure to comply with conditions that were set in two cases against him in 2015 and 2016.
Before he made his initial appearance in District Court, Naea appeared before Acting Associate Justice Elvis P. Patea for an Order to Show Cause (OSC) hearing at 8:30 a.m. that same morning.
Patea ordered Naea to be released on his own recognizance to await his next court appearance, which is next month.
