Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — American Samoa has recorded its fourth COVID-19 related death, which was reported by LBJ Medical Center on Mar. 28. No other information was provided by territorial authorities about the deceased.

Also on Mar. 28, health officials recorded 326 new COVID-19 positive cases brining the total cumulative counts to date to 3,756 confirmed community cases, 4 deaths, 1,160 treated with therapeutics. And government data shows that 736 individuals who previously tested positive have now recovered or have completed their 14 days of isolation.

The community spread has been contained on the main island of Tutuila while authorities have put in place restrictions for travel to and from the Manu’a island group - with no reported cases.

Speaking during a virtual press conference this week, Lt. Gov. Talauega Eleasalo Ale says that more positive cases are projected this week — which is the “week we expect our surge to peak. We are expected to look at numbers above 300 and close to 400 daily this week.”

“As positive rates continue, the chances and the possibilities for fatalities increase,” he said. (See Samoa News edition Mar. 29 for details)
