Daughter arrested after allegedly causing a family disturbance
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On April 21, 2025, a concerned mother called the Leone Police Substation (LPS) to report that her daughter was allegedly causing a disturbance in their home.
The suspect was later apprehended and was charged with Count 1: Private Peace Disturbance (DV), a class C misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to fifteen days, a fine of $300, or both imprisonment and fine.
The defendant’s bail was set at $300.
According to the court affidavit, on Apr. 21st, around 2:50 p.m., a mother (later identified as the reporter) contacted the LPS regarding an alleged disturbance being caused by her daughter. The reporter claimed that her daughter (later identified as the suspect) was yelling profanities in Samoan and was intoxicated.
Authorities responded to the call and upon arrival at the scene, visually observed the suspect being violent, kicking her family members while they were trying to calm her down, and restrain her.
The officers then tried to restrain the suspect but she continued to be rowdy and acting violently. The officers called for assistance and upon arrival of several officers, they were able to apprehend the suspect.
The suspect was placed inside the police unit for the booking process.
The reporter was later interviewed and she stated that her daughter, Christina Mata’u had just returned home from a party, and that “she called for law enforcement assistance because of the suspect’s severe behavior, which they had a hard time controlling — including her shouting profanities and kicking her family members.”
Upon arrival at the LPS, authorities were not able to Mirandize the suspect due to her being highly intoxicated. Instead, the officers contacted the EMS for medical assistance pertaining to the injuries observed on her which had happened during the disturbance at her home.
Upon arrival of the EMS, the suspect was assessed by paramedics but she refused treatment and also refused being taken to the hospital.
After the medical assessment and treatment, the suspect was booked and confined at the Tafuna Correctional Facility awaiting the next available sitting of the District Court.
The defendant is identified as a 26 year-old U.S National.
