COVID surge shifts to Manu’a

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA —The Dept. of Health’s (DoH) latest report released on Friday evening shows Faleasao village leading the active case count with 25 active cases, up from 18 reported on the previous accounting — followed by Tafuna with 19, Leone 15 and Nuuuli 12. 

DOH continues to send medical supplies, personal protective equipment (PPEs) and masks to both Tau and Ofu clinics as well as transporting more monoclonal antibodies and antiviral medications to Manu’a for therapeutic treatment.

The latest data reported by the DoH at 6p.m. Friday May 6, sees the cumulative death count ticking up by one bringing it to 29.

DoH reported 8 new cases on May 5. Cumulative case count stands at 5894 with 146 active cases and 469 tests administered at the time the data was released. 

Vaccination rates in American Samoa stand at 84.3% for the total population and 63.5 of the eligible population has received at least one booster shot.

Meanwhile the COVID-19 death count in the United States and its territories surpassed 1 million this past week. This comes just 27 months after the first case of the virus was confirmed stateside.
