Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On April 3, 2024, at about 5:39 p.m, a male individual contacted the Fagatogo Police Station (FPS) to report his father, who was identified as Setu Muliau. It was revealed that the defendant was causing a disturbance at their home in the village of Utusi’a.
Muliau was charged with one count of Private Peace Disturbance — a class B misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment up to six (6) months, a fine of $500 but not less than $150, or both.
No bail is listed in the affidavit.
Upon arrival at the scene, police officers met with the defendant’s son who was the victim and reporter of the incident, according to the affidavit.
The victim explained that “he and his mother were having a talk about their family stuff in the living room,” when they were both “shocked” by his father causing a disturbance in their home. The victim shared that the suspect continued to yell profanities at him in front of his mother.
The victim recalled his father (suspect) drinking early in the afternoon at around 12:00 p.m at their home and could not remember the time that his father finished drinking.
The victim said that there was an incident that occurred the previous evening in which “his mother came to his room and told him (victim) that she needed someone to help her bring his father (suspect) home because he was drunk.” When the victim tried to bring his father home, his father (suspect) yelled profanities and refused to return home.
The defendant was transported to the Tafuna Correctional Facility (TCF) to await the next sitting of District Court.
The defendant is identified as a 67-year-old citizen of Samoa.
FAAFETAI ALIKI
On April 11, 2024, at about 11:19 a.m, a woman contacted the Tafuna Police Substation (TPS) regarding a domestic dispute between two individuals in Leone.
Faafetai Aliki was charged with one count of Public Peace Disturbance — a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six (6) months, a fine of $500.00 but not less than $150, or both.
Bail for the defendant was set at $500.
According to the affidavit, when police officers arrived at the scene, they observed a group of people who pointed to where the incident occurred. Officers proceeded to the small market across from Doc’s Store and observed a female individual laying down and crying inside. She identified herself as Faafetai Aliki (suspect). Officers escorted her to the police unit.
As police officers interviewed the witness (reporter of the incident), she stated that “she heard someone yelling profanities across from her residence.” It was then that the witness walked across the street to the market and observed the suspect yelling profanities out loud, alarming people at the store. Several people explained to the witness that they saw “Aliki throw a bowl saimin towards a male’s face” as he was walking away from her.
When police officers spoke to the suspect, she stated that “her boyfriend (Mafa) was breaking up with her and she kept questioning why?” She the explained that she “threw a hot bowl saimin toward her boyfriend’s face and it started to escalate the situation between them.”
The defendant was booked and transported to the TCF to be confined.
The suspect was identified as a 26-year-old citizen of Samoa.
