BPW Pago Pago, ASCC Business Dept team up for job seminar

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Nearly 100 students, teachers, and local professionals participated in the first Make that Job Yours! Business Seminar organized by Business and Professional Women Pago Pago in partnership with the Business Department at the American Samoa Community College.

 The seminar opened with a short story from Congresswoman Aumua Amata Coleman Radewagen, a lifetime member of BPW Pago Pago as she shared experiences from her first job as a Dole pineapple trimmer. BPW Vice President Lafotasi Tufele presented the background and mission of BPW Pago Pago.

 The seminar focused on resume writing, interviewing skills, and researching prospective employers.

Local professionals spoke on their experiences with prospective employees:

Nadine Solofa-Taufa’asau, Store Manager of Neil’s ACE Home Center presented on the do’s and don’ts of interviewing.

Salamasina Satele, Acting Human Resources Manager at American Samoa Power Authority presented tips for researching your potential employer with an emphasis on knowing the company and the prospective job.

Lisa Gebauer, Director of Human Resources from Bluesky Communications gave a checklist of resume items and how to best have your resume stand out in the crowd.

BPW Member and graduate of ASCC Business Program, Judy Mulitalo hosted the seminar.

Judy Mulitalo commented, “It is wonderful to see an event like this that brings people of all stages in the employment process together. I didn’t have this opportunity when I was in school, so I am happy to be part of bringing this to the ASCC students.”
