American Samoa Visitors Bureau Board convenes first meeting, elects officers

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The American Samoa Visitors Bureau (ASVB) announced that its newly appointed Board of Directors convened its first meeting on Thursday, April 30, 2026. During this inaugural session, the Board elected its officers and began outlining preliminary priorities aimed at strengthening the Territory’s travel, tourism, and hospitality industry.

Elected to serve as Chairman is Deputy Secretary of Samoan Affairs, Vaiutusala Sataua Dr. Mataese F. Samuelu. Mr. Sosene Asifoa Jr. of Alofa Tours was elected Vice Chairman. The Director of the Department of Commerce, Ali’imuamua Magdalene Petaia, will serve as Secretary, and Hawaiian/ Alaska Airlines Station Manager, Mrs. Rosalind Polu, was elected Treasurer. Mrs. Rosalia Tisa Fa'amuli also joins the Board, bringing her expertise and insight to the team.

ASVB Executive Director Taimalelagi Minnie Tuia welcomed the newly appointed Board and emphasized the significance of their leadership at this pivotal time for the industry.

“Your leadership and experience come at a critical time for our tourism sector,” said Director Taimalelagi. “While we are operating within a reduced and constrained budget, we remain committed to expanding, strengthening, and developing this vital industry. Our people, our villages, and our culture and traditions continue to be our greatest assets. The unique beauty of our islands and the warmth of our hospitality inspire visitors and position American Samoa as a truly special destination.”

Taimalelagi also highlighted the importance of community-based tourism and the role villages play in shaping authentic visitor experiences.

“Every village has a story,” she added. “We are in a unique position to support our communities in sharing these stories, while creating meaningful economic opportunities that benefit our villages.”

The ASVB Board of Directors will continue to meet in the coming weeks to further refine strategic priorities and initiatives to advance tourism development across the Territory.
