Washington, D.C. — This past Friday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed $406,084 in CARES Act funds to expand American Samoa’s COVID-19 testing capacity. This discretionary grant is from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency of the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department.

“The CARES Act continues to make helpful resources available,” said Aumua Amata. “It’s a blessing we have no coronavirus cases, and it remains very important to have readiness in place and be capable of testing as needed.”

This grant is directed through the American Samoa Department of Health, led by Director Motusa Nua, and this project’s manager is Kenn Kuaea, executive director of the Community Health Centers.

“Thank you to Kenn Kuaea for his work on this initiative, and congratulations to Governor Lolo Moliga and Director Motusa Nua as the Territory continues to prepare,” said Congresswoman Amata. “We appreciate this support from HHS and HRSA. Most of all, we depend on our doctors and nurses in this effort.”

HRSA is led by Administrator Thomas Engels as part of the Trump Administration, and HHS by Secretary Alex Azar.
