Amata visits Israel to observe Holocaust Remembrance Day
Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata visited Israel as part of a bipartisan delegation for meetings with national leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, participation in the Yom HaShoah observance, Holocaust Remembrance Day. While in Israel, the delegation also met families of the hostages from the October 7, 2023 attacks, and visited the U.S. Embassy, where they greeted the U.S. Marines on duty there.
The eight-Member Congressional Delegation (CODEL), led by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, began in London, then also included visits to Jordan and Denmark for meetings with leadership in each country
“It was particularly moving to be in Israel for the observance of Yom HaShoah, and remember all that the people of Israel, and the Jewish people throughout the world, have endured over the past 2,000 years and especially during the horrors of the Holocaust over the World War II years,” said Congresswoman Aumua Amata.
Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes Remembrance Day is a yearly memorial to the millions of lives of the Holocaust, and the bravery of the Jewish Resistance including the resistance beginning April 19, 1943, known in history as the Warsaw Ghetto uprising.
“Israel is a dependable friend to the United States, and doubly important as a democratically elected government in the region,” continued Congresswoman Amata. “I appreciated the opportunity for our delegation to hear directly from Prime Minister Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, and Opposition Leader Yair Lapid.”
“In prior visits, I’ve had the humbling opportunity to visit some of the many memorable sites in the Holy Land that are deeply treasured in the Christian faith,” she concluded. “I pray for lasting renewal of peace and security in this historic land.”
