Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Twenty Manumalo Academy high school students have completed another milestone in their educational or life’s journey and are heading onto the many paths that are now open, they need but make a choice.

On Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the home of the Flames, parents, families and supporters of the graduating class attended the commencement ceremony.

This year’s theme is “Light the way”.

Manumalo’s top students are dominated by females who achieved the highest grades and named Valedictorians of the graduating class of 2022 are — Georgina Taufailematagi Alofa, Kirsten Hailey Nunag De Lara; Katherine Kim; Kimberly Dianne Flores Mendoza and Jasmine Mondelo.

The keynote address was delivered by Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga, who focused on the motto chosen by the graduating class, pointing to Psalm 119:105/106 that reads “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep Thy righteous judgments.”

Noting that the psalm and the motto is fitting for Manumalo’s special day as this is the guiding principle during their years in high school, but most importantly, it is a reminder to take what you have learned and use it along your journey.

“Light impacts and sustains our world and everything in it. It is essential in our daily lives and activities.

“The bible also uses light to symbolize God, faith and holiness. As Christians you are called to not only walk in the light but to be a light for others.”

Governor Lemanu told the graduates the each of them have their own light within and everyone has a purpose.

“As you embark on a wonderful new journey, remember that people are watching and you never know whose life you can touch, and who can you inspire by your example. Never underestimate the impact that you all can have on people around you.

“In this life, you will be challenged, some days more than others, so no matter what challenges you face, you must step into the light and move forward,” said Governor Lemanu.
