12th death from COVID reported in Am Samoa over the weekend

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On Saturday the Dept of Health reported one new death related to COVID-19 . The report did not give any other details on the latest fatality.

The number of new COVID cases in the latest report on April 8 was 79, out of 753 tests conducted by the Department of Health and LBJ Hospital.

The cumulative COVID-19 case count is now estimated at 5,341, with 3,236 individuals who previously tested positive now recovered. The local vaccination rate now stands at 83.4% and DoH continues to encourage that you get the shots if you have not done so.

The three highest village counts remain in Tafuna, Nuuuli and Leone.

The release also announced the well baby clinics at Fagaalu and Tafuna will be reopening this week. Service for children 0-12 months on Monday and Tuesday only and for children 2-17 years on Wednesday and Thursday only.  Clinics will be closed on Friday, the Good Friday holiday.

In Samoa, the Ministry of Health has confirmed four new COVID-19 related deaths in the 24 hours from 2 p.m April 7 until 2 p.m April 8. This takes the total number of COVID related deaths since the first community transmission case was confirmed March 17 to 7.

The ministry said all four deceased were males.

Samoa is reporting 3, 665 cases, including border cases, as of Samoa Time 2 p.m, Apr. 8.
