Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The American Samoa Community College (ASCC) Agriculture, Community and Natural Resources (ACNR) Division celebrated the opening of its newly renovated Fale Samoa on July 1, 2026  marking the completion of a project that will enhance community-focused research at the college.

The ceremony began with welcoming remarks from ACNR Director Aufaʻi Apulu Ropeti Areta, who greeted guests, staff, and community members gathered for the special occasion. An opening prayer was then offered by Pastor Autagavaia Alfred Peters, setting the tone for a celebration centered on gratitude and service.

As part of the program, outgoing ASCC President Dr. Rosevonne Pato was recognized as the guest of honor. In appreciation of her years of dedicated leadership and service to the College, Dr. Pato was invited to officially dedicate the new Fale Samoa by cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

Joining her was Vice President Dr. Letupu Moananu, attending on behalf of interim President Sonny J. Leomiti and the ASCC administration. Their participation reflected the College's support for the ACNR Division and the completion of the Fale Samoa.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests took part in a traditional ʻava ceremony, commemorating the opening in accordance with Samoan custom. The event concluded with the presentation of fine mats to Dr. Pato as a heartfelt farewell gift, symbolizing the division’s appreciation and respect.

Gifts of fine mats were also presented to Vice President Moananu and interim President Leomiti and IEAD Executive Director Maʻauga Tauvela Fale in recognition of their continued support and their presence during the celebration.

Director Aufaʻi Areta thanked the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture for funding the project and acknowledged the support of the ASCC administration and campus offices that helped facilitate the project, as well as the contractor, VAA Construction, for bringing it to fruition. He noted that the new Fale Samoa will continue to serve as a welcoming space, supporting ACNR's research mission while preserving the traditions and heritage of American Samoa.
