DOE announces its Island Wide Science Fair winners

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The 40th annual American Samoa Island Wide Science Fair, hosted by the Science/Health Division of Curriculum and Instruction, and the American Samoa Department of Education, have announced the winners.

This was confirmed in a statement released by the Department of Education. The competition concluded Friday, March 10, 2023.

According to DOE, this STEAM-related competition was open to all K-12 students and is aimed at inspiring scientists, engineers, and innovators of the future to solve great challenges.

“Winners of the high school division are now eligible to represent American Samoa at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (Regeneron ISEF) 2023, a program of the Society for Science and the Public, is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, and is scheduled for May 14-19 in Dallas, Texas at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.

“Annually, about 1,800 high school students from more than 75 countries, regions, and territories are awarded the opportunity to showcase their independent project and compete for approximately $6 million in prizes,” according to a press release from ASDOE.

The American Samoa Science Fair was held on March 6-10 at the Gov Rex Lee Auditorium, with more than 350 students from public and private schools participating in this week-long STEAM activity. ASDOE and the Science/Health Division of the Division of Curriculum and Instruction, would like to extend gratitude to their sponsors, including the USDOE Consolidated Grants of Insular Affairs, ASDOE, DOH, Tiara Events & Rentals, GIAS, Cost U Less, Neil’s ACE Home Center, Anahira Sene and Mabuhay travels.
