Five-year-old boy dies in tragic traffic accident

Traffic Officers are currently investigating the death of a five year old in Fagasa after he was run over by a vehicle that was there to pick him up after school.

According to Assistant Attorney General Terrie Bullinger the initial reports indicate that a 16-year-old boy, who was detained at the Juvenile Detention Center for his safety, drove the vehicle.

Bullinger told Samoa News that the accident occurred when the driver was pulling out and the five year old was climbing onto the back of the truck while the vehicle was reversing and it’s alleged the child fell and the vehicle ran over him.

According to reports by the police, the victim who was taken to the hospital died the next day from the injuries sustained.

The driver has not been charged and it’s unclear if the government will prosecute this matter.

When the 16 year old appeared in court, it was packed with families, friends and supporters. Samoa News understands that the mother of the five year old does not wish for the government to file criminal charges against the driver who is her nephew.
